Smile Telecoms and TeleStax Launch Africa’s First 4G/LTE Mobile Broadband Network

PRESS RELEASE: Austin, Texas (10/11/2013) — Telestax, Inc. a leading company in Open Source Cloud Communications and Smile Communications announce the launch of the first 4G/LTE Mobile Broadband Network in Africa.

Smile Communications aims to deliver affordable, high quality and easy to use broadband access and communication services to customers across Africa. Founded in 2007, Smile is at the forefront of harnessing technologies to create innovative solutions that enable the cost-effective deployment of advanced communication services to everyone in Africa. Smile has deployed Africa’s first 4G LTE broadband services, and has commercial LTE networks in Tanzania and Uganda and imminent launch plans for Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A major differentiator for Smile has been the ability to rapidly adjust to changing market conditions and technologies while operating from a very small cost base. To achieve this Smile has taken the approach of outsourcing transport plane functionality, while developing the service plane in house by leveraging TeleStax solutions – allowing for flexible, efficient and cost-effective service differentiation.

With Smile’s 4G LTE broadband data capabilities customers are realising their true potential and helping accelerate the productive capacity of the African economy.
